Kenya Airports Authority has won the Award for the Most Gender Responsive Parastatal in Kenya. This was presented to Kenya Airports Authority at the International Labor Organization ILO/ Women Entrepreneurship Development and Gender Equality (WEDGE), Kenya Private Sector alliance( KEPSA) Month of the Women Entrepreneur(MOWE) Awards Gala Dinner held at the Panafric Hotel on 30th September 2011.
The ILO Women Entrepreneurship Development and Gender Equality (WEDGE) programme, in collaboration with the Women Entrepreneur Associations, KEPSA and other selected WEDGE partners formed a partnership designed to contribute to the overall objectives of creating greater opportunities for women to secure decent work and income. Attainment of gender equity and equality in KAA is regarded as a core development issue and goal in its own right.
The Awards giving ceremony’s main aim is to promote the role of Women’s Entrepreneurship Development (WED) in National development by recognizing the potential and achievements of women entrepreneurs, including those with disabilities, recognize organizations that promote gender equity and equality as well as women entrepreneurs associations.
On the 29th of April this year Kenya Airports Authority officially launched its gender policy, to mark the commissioning of the gender mainstreaming programme. The Gender Policy, provides a comprehensive framework of the principles and strategies to be pursued to achieve gender equity and equality. It also acknowledges on-going initiatives in bridging the gender gaps in employment and provision of service, and identifies special measures that KAA should take to redress the identified gender inequities. |
