Kenya Airports Authority and Fly 540 Sponsor Charity Golf Tournament at Kitale Club

Kenya Airports Authority in partnership with Fly540 sponsored a Charity Golf Tournament in aid of the Great Mercy Children’s Home at the Kitale Club on Saturday the 19th of November 2011 in Kitale. The tournament which was dominated by the lady golfers brought together sixty seven golfers from Kitale, Kakamega, Nandi and Nairobi, which included Mr. Yatich Kangugo, Ms. Selina Gor and Mr. Patrick Kae representing Kenya Airports Authority, while Mr Nixon Ooko represented Fly540.


Kitale Club Ladies Captain Mrs. Sandhya Shah currently playing off handicap twelve won the gross title on sixty seven points, a return ticket for two to Zanzibar courtesy of fly540. The runner up was Ms. Anna Rutembe while Mr. Eliud Weche won third place.


Fourth, fifth and sixth place who all had 72 points were led on count back by Mr. Nelson Kirior playing handicap 19, followed by Mr. Zack Nderitu on handicap 8 while sixth place went to T. J. Wanjala.
Longest drive ladies went to Nandi Bears ladies captain Irene Brooker, while the Kitale Club Captain Charles Yano won the longest drive for men. Save for Irene Brooker all the main prizes went to Kitale Club golfers.

Speaking during the prize giving ceremony the Deputy Managing Director Kenya Airports Authority commended Fly540 for partnering with KAA in sponsoring  the first ever Charity Golf Tournament at Kitale Club, and he called on them to continue supporting KAA in the development of the Aviation industry in Kitale.


 He went on to add “Aircraft and passenger traffic in Kitale has grown steadily over the last few years. Consequently Kenya Airports Authority in support of the development of the aviation industry is planning to build an executive terminal building with parking facilities at Kitale Airstrip. We also intend to undertake repair and extension of the runway, boundary fence and rehabilitation of the perimeter roads.”


The Deputy Managing Director was accompanied by Mr. Peter Wafula Airport Manager Eldoret, who is in charge of Kitale Airstrip, Mr. Yatich Kangugo Airport Manager Moi International Airport and the Corporate Affairs team of Selina Gor and Robinson Malemo. The Charity Golf Tournament in aid of the Great Mercy Children’s Home raised  a total of Ksh 364,000 for the home.
Kitale town is served by Kitale Airstrip which is located 10kms from the town and is managed by Kenya Airports Authority. Fly540 operates daily scheduled flights to Kitale Airstrip from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.
