Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) has for the third time won the Excellence in Airport Route Marketing – African Region at the 16th World Routes Airport Marketing Award 2010, in Vancouver Canada. JKIA also won this award in the year 2008 and 2009.
The Routes Airport Marketing Awards are the world's most prestigious Airport Awards because they are voted for by the airlines themselves. They are indicative of importance of the Airline – Airport relationship. In voting for airports the airlines consider the efforts airports place on developing and maintaining positive and productive relationships with them, especially in the areas of marketing and business development.
Ms Lucy Mbugua, General Manager Marketing and Business Development, while receiving the award on behalf of Kenya Airports Authority, thanked the airlines for their unwavering support. She assured them that the management has put in place an ambitious expansion and rehabilitation programme, that will see the creation of a second runway, as part of management’s strategy to enhance service delivery at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport. She went on to add
“Kenya Airports Authority has undertaken a number of marketing activities at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport focused on rewarding loyal customers, increasing airport capacity, expanding our market share while providing quality customer service. This award is a testament that we are on the right track as we have witnessed unprecedented growth of 6% in passenger traffic, 3% in Aircraft traffic and 7.4% increase in Cargo.”
In the year 2009/2010 international route planners within the airline industry have introduced ten new city pairs and increased each of their frequencies by 40%. Jomo Kenyatta International Airports success can without a doubt be attributed to the quarterly customer satisfaction surveys, and the product improvement exercise, that have formed a platform for accessing the service delivery. The product improvement exercise targets all the customer contact points from entry to the airport, checking-in, security, lounges, shopping, boarding, arrival procedures, landscaping as well as cargo.
